Official bits and pieces

I had an unexpectedly early package arrive today! Wasn’t expecting this lot for weeks (I’m a cheap skate and only paid for the slow delivery.)

Box’o goodies!

I’m not usually a big spender on things, but since the Digital Parents Conference is coming up in march, and it’s generally considered good form to have a business card to pass about, I started having a nosey about. Might have gone just a touch over board, but I have to admit I do like the logo.

While this isn’t a huge step, it is a step and I chose to call happies about it!

Writing has always been what I wanted to do, and as my mother in law said last week, two paying jobs in three months is a lot better than some people do when they’re just starting out, so don’t be down on yourself! This is my year, people, you just watch!

  1. I got my new brochures a couple of weeks back and was also surprised at how quickly they’d arrived. Sounds like we might be doing similar things in our little parts of the world – you in Tassie, me in SE Qld!

    • I popped over and had a look at redlandcityliving.com and it looks great! Everyone beats me on profesionalism, I’m a bit scattered at the best of times, but you also beat me hands down on interactivity! How do you get people talking?

    • Hehe thanks Jo, i kinda wanna mess with it and try to learn how to do it myself. It’s just going to take some time… Prodge the first starts school next month so hopefully some time will present itself around then!

I’ll keep you on speed dial for when I inevitably do something stupid though.

    • They’re just Vistaprint ones, seriously nothing fancy but you can’t go past the price. I’m not in a place where I can go all out of sexy glossy ones yet… one day.

    • I didn’t for a long time either, but with the DPCON13 coming up in March I thought I’d feel a bit silly with nothing to hand out at all! It was a really easy process with Vistaprint, and OK so they aren’t really flash or anything, but at this stage it’s just a foot in the door kind of a thing. Ideally I’d prefer to work with a local company but that kind of money just isn’t on the cards right now.

  2. Good Afternoon, popped by your blog after seeing this post over at BlogsandPR and I was wondering how you got involved in paid writing (I’m guessing that’s what the paid jobs were). I blog over at http://www.goodfoodweek.blogspot.com and am about the begin my maternity leave in 4 weeks – it would be awesome to know how to get my foot in the door for some freelance opportunities. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • To be honest I’m still VERY new when it comes to that kind of thing. Both my sponsored posts were sourced through the Digital Parents website. It’s totally free to sign up and one of the things they do is promote bloggers and connect them with various brands and intitiatives that are looking for some help in the social media/blogging game.

With my second pay (a whopping $50) I’ll be joining Blogs and PR as well which is an Australian organisation that connects blogs with brands that are looking for reps/advocates etc. That one is $40 to join but I’ve heard some really good things from people I know who are members. There is also source bottle – where journalists/brands and even other blogs can post for articles or people who want to be involved in things. A lot of those are unpaid but they get your name out there and some are pretty fun! That one is free to join. As is Social Callout – I’ve only joined them recently but they connect you with brands that want to do giveaways or become involved in sponsored blogging. Those are where I’d start. Look for something that kinda speaks to you to start, and don’t be discouraged if you don’t get called up right away – HEAPS of people apply for everything so sometimes you have to swing about a bit before you get anywhere

  3. Wow I love your logo and the colour. One day I’m going to get serious about blogging and head to a conference. I just read your responses and hope I can get my shite together soon and try to find a way to make my blog help pay for me to stay at home with my kids! Emily

    • These don’t have a phone number because my mobile is a *&^% and only works about half the time and I’m not prepared to hand out the home phone.

Maybe not having contact info on it made you mysterious and evocative? Make the peeps LOOK for you *g*
